FilmCan is a movie and TV show discovery app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app uses and how it is handled.

Information We Collect and Use

FilmCan does not ask for sensitive personal information such as your address, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or precise location.

The app may use the following information:

  • TMDB account information: If you sign in with The Movie Database (TMDB), the app may access your TMDB account ID, name, username, profile image path, adult content preference, session token, favorites, ratings, watchlist data etc.
  • App usage and diagnostics: The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand general app usage, detect crashes, and improve stability. This may include device information, app version, crash logs, and usage events.
  • Search and content requests: When you search for movies, TV shows, or people, or when you open content details, the app sends requests to TMDB to provide the requested content.
  • Local app data: The app stores some movie, TV show, account, rating, favorite, watchlist, language preference, and session data on your device so the app can work faster and keep you signed in.

How We Use Information

We use this information to:

  • Show movie, TV show, person, review, image, trailer, and provider information.
  • Let you sign in with TMDB.
  • Sync your TMDB favorites, ratings, and watchlist.
  • Save your preferences and session state on your device.
  • Improve app performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Diagnose crashes and technical issues.

Local Storage and Security

FilmCan stores your TMDB session and user details locally on your device. Session data is stored using encryption. Some non-sensitive app data is stored in a local database cache.

No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but the app uses reasonable technical measures to protect locally stored session information.

Third-Party Services

FilmCan uses third-party services to provide its features:

  • The Movie Database (TMDB): Provides movie, TV show, person, image, account, rating, favorite, and watchlist data. FilmCan uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
  • Google Firebase Analytics: Helps understand app usage.
  • Google Firebase Crashlytics: Helps detect and fix crashes.
  • Firebase Remote Config: Helps provide remote configuration values.
  • YouTube / embedded video services: May be used to play trailers or videos.

These services may process information according to their own privacy policies:

Data Sharing

FilmCan does not sell your personal information.

Information may be shared with third-party services only as needed to provide app functionality, such as TMDB account features, content requests, analytics, crash reporting, and video playback.

Data Retention

Data stored locally remains on your device until you clear the app data, uninstall the app, or sign out where applicable. TMDB account data is managed by TMDB and subject to TMDB's own policies.

Analytics and crash diagnostic data may be retained by Google Firebase according to Google's data retention practices.

You can:

  • Use the app without signing in to TMDB for basic browsing features.
